Another spin on my popular private courses. This course is run over sunset on day one and sunrise on day two. The idea and concept behind this is to do two shoots where the light is at its best or commonly termed "Magic Hour".
Magic Hour is the term photographers give the period before and after sunrise and sunset. This is usually the time when the light is at it's best for the day in terms of crazy colour and contrast. Saying it is just an hour is not quite right. It's more like two hours. But calling it Magic Hour sounds better than Magic Two Hour.
On day one we will start 4 hours before sunset. In this time we will cover camera set up, the capture techniques to get max depth of field with perfect balanced exposure, the correct use of filters to adjust, control and master light to get the final desired effect in a shot, composition principles and more.

On day one we will start 4 hours before sunset. In this time we will cover camera set up, the capture techniques to get max depth of field with perfect balanced exposure, the correct use of filters to adjust, control and master light to get the final desired effect in a shot, composition principles and more.
We then put these new skills and techniques into pratice with the warm afternoon light and then into sunset and twilight. At the end of the shoot we will have a debrief and plan for your sunset shoot.
On day two we will meet 1 hour before sunrise. Our morning shoot will go for approx 3 hours, taking in the best of the light over this period. This is an opportunity to shoot again under guidance and instruction the dramatic light and dynamic range given to you. We will shoot and put into pratice more techniques to control shutter speed for movement effects and focus on fine tunning composition. As the sunrise light moves into that softer morning warmth we continue to shoot.
1. The concept and technique behind shutter blending to blend in images with different key elements to make one perfect image.
2. The concept and technique behind exposure blending to maxamise your scenes dynamic range. This is also known as LDR (Low Dynamic Range) shooting.
3. Being able to read your histogram in any situation and to use it to perfect your exposures to maximise shadow detail while controlling your highlights.
4. Digital panoramics, the set up, the technique and most important the composition of a digital panoramic.
5. Long exposure photography using
full Neutral Density filters.
The course will go for approx 8 - 9 hours in total.
In order to take full advantage of this course you will need certain equipment and this will be provided. So all you need is a SLR camera. We even have tripods you can use as well if you dont have one or if it isnt up to scratch.
Course start and finish times are subject to sunrise and sunset times at the time of the year the course is attended.

There are times when out teaching that using visual aids speak a thousand words. Using the new apple iPad delivers a whole new learning experience as images and video content are delivered showing students how images have been shot and put together for a certain look. Shooting techniques integrated with photoshop editing can now be seen illustrating the whole workflow from capture to editing. It is an amazing new feature thats students love.
