Imacon Drums scans of 6x17 Velvia 50 slide from Matt Lauder on Vimeo.

About my scans::

The Imacon drum scanners have been available on the market for some time and their ability for clean hassel free and high resolution scanning of film has made the old oil mounting drum scanners obsolete.

When selecting someone to scan your film why go anywhere else other than to someone who is in the industry. All my images on this website have been scanned by me and my Imacon 343.

When I got my system I painstakenly re scanned all my work that I had done by other labs, even those who had their own Imacons. My rescanned images had better colour depth and tones.

My scans are super clean without the use of dust removal software that tend to also try and remove items in your shot that it thinks is dust when it is really part of the image.

I scan film for other professionals in the field, but my own work is my best reference for the type of quality and results you can expect from my scanning.

  • What I can scan:
    Medium format and 35mm film
Slide, B&W slide, Negative and B&W film.

  • We scan at True Optical:
True Optical scanning is when the imacon scans your film pixel for pixel with it's own sensor to the final image size.

Not scanning true optial results in the scan being done with interpolation (re sizing) of the final image.

Having been a keen photographer for some time, I held professional landscape photographers in awe bewildered by their outcomes. Getting close to those standards seemed unobtainable. I was given a one day course with Matt as a present. I had no idea what to expect, but was confident that at the end of the day I would be a better photographer, but suspected that the difference would be minimal - after all how much could I learn in just one day.

Matt immediately assessed my photographic skills, and structured the day to my abilities. Fundamentals that I understood, but not fully appreciated, were explained and demonstrated. Within the first few minutes I became a better photographer, and the improvement continued. By the end of the day I was shooting landscapes at a standard that I thought I was beyond my capabilities. Very importantly I can now take a great photo in all sorts of conditions, no longer concerned that changing weather conditions will compromise my photographs.

How much did I learn in one day? Well, far more than I ever anticipated. Take the plunge and do a course with Matt, you will not be disappointed, and enjoy the accolades from family and friends about your photographs.

    Hi Matt
What a fabulous day, thank you so much for the overall basics and especially the inside tips at the beginning of the day / and it just got better as the day got longer… more details and more techniques. I have just had a look at the images I made today and already they are better than anything I have taken in the past...Thanks again for a great day of training. I wanted to learn how to operate my camera fully and take great photos and that's what I got from your course.

    Cheers, Rosie

Thanks again for a great day.  I really feel much, much more confident with landscape photography and even enough to say that i feel that I have a good grasp of the techniques involved.  Your teaching style is very good and covers many aspects of landscape photography.  I learnt so much yet realise that there is a lot more to learn.  Your guidance and communication skills particularly lend to a positive learning experience.  In other feedback,  I thought the time spent at Ken Duncan's gallery was a good idea and has potential to spend time discussing the techniques used in the art / industry, pros and cons of various photos etc...
Thanks heaps for your expertise and advice.
    regards
    Anthony
