Our Central Coast based private landscape photography courses can be held anywhere along the Central Coast coastline from Catherine Hill Bay through to the Entrance, Avoca, down to Killcare or Pearl Beach.![]()
All of our private courses have their own structure and objectives but on booking a course with us we will gauge your experience level and what you want to achieve from the day and we will tailor a course for your needs and skill level along with our own content.
Our private courses offer students the opportunity to have their course run so we shoot sunset together or sunrise. Sunrise does mean we need to start our day about an hour and a half before sunrise but we then get to shoot the best light of the day. Our sunset start times mean we will shoot up to sunset. The choice is up to you.
HOW TO BOOK A COURSE -- Our private courses are held midweek during the first week of every month. Other times of the month may be available but it would be on request. Further down on this page you will find where you can book a day.

Our detailed, illustrated work booklet is supplied when you book. It is packed full of valuable information that will give you a preview of what will be taught on the day and will be an excellent point of reference after our day together. It also contains details on suppliers and online community and resource web sites.
The Rubbing Pixels web site offers over 18 hours of image editing and in the field instruction videos. No photographer or course in Australia has it's own web site dedicated to furthering students skills after their course is complete.

Putting theory into practice. Your course will start with us teaching and explaining to you our capture workflow and process. Then we explore locations as you put your new skills into practice and we expand on how other images are captured like digital panoramic's and more.



Matt is a full time landscape photographer with over a decade of experience. Our courses over the years have taught easily 500 + people the exact skills and process we use to take the images you see on this web site.

Our Sydney private courses can be started anywhere along the Sydney coastline from Newport to Maroubra or the city.
Your course will go for approximately 6 - 7 hours and will taken in several locations during the day.
The cost for the Sydney private course is $550.
Our Newcastle private courses can be started anywhere along the Newcastle coastline.
Your course will go for approximately 6 - 7 hours and will taken in several locations during the day.

What kind of camera do you need to undertake our courses ?
You need any kind of Digital SLR to undertake our course. Some high end point and shoots like the Lumix and Canon G11 are also find, but during the day there might be some limitations with those kind of cameras.
Are your courses for absolute beginners ?
Absolutely. All of our courses start at the basics and we build peoples skills up from there.
Are your courses for intermediate / advanced level photographers ?
Yes, defiantly. Even though our course starts from the basics there is a lot to learn and the aim of the course is to fully break down and explain the concepts, techniques and processes Matt uses to capture and create his own images.
What can I expect to learn on the day ?
The easiest way to explain what we teach on the day is to say we show you in detail how Matt takes his photos. We teach you a fail proof capture workflow that is simply a recipe to perfect photo's every time.
We go through the correct set up of your camera menu systems and body settings.
We explain the relationship between Aperture, Iso and Shutter speed and how controlling them can create movement effects in your shot.
We go into detail on how to read your histogram to the level where you don't even have to see your image to know if your photo is spot on.
The set up and concepts behind shooting digital panoramic's is covered.
Capture techniques like Exposure Blending, Shutter Blending, Timescapes, Shooting Star trails, Tilt Shift, Night Photography are explained and practiced.
The correct use of common photography filters like full neutral density filters, graduated neutral density filters and Polarisers is explained not just in how to use them, but also how not to use them and what can go wrong.
We discuss composition not just in the physical sense but also in terms of the composition of light and shutter speed to really make an image work.
What equipment do I need ?
We recommend that to do the course you have your own tripod, but this is not essential as we have a few spare that can be borrowed on the day.
The Course Work booklet ?
On booking a course you will be sent the course work booklet that is about 48 pages in length and it is your pre course reading material to familiarise yourself with what will be taught and expanded upon on the day. The booklet most importantly is your reference guide after the course has been undertaken.
The booklet also includes excellent reference materials for online web sites, equipment recommendations and more.
